Implant Treatment

Aesthetics and Durability

What are Implants?

Implants are artificial tooth roots used to replace teeth lost or extracted due to tooth decay, gum disease, or accidents.

Implant treatment is generally the preferred option for replacing teeth after tooth loss. When a tooth is missing, implants can be used to correct chewing function, restore speech ability, and achieve a better aesthetic appearance.

Implants can be applied in different ways for single tooth loss, multiple tooth loss, or complete edentulism.

This treatment is generally a long-term solution and provides an appearance and function very similar to natural teeth. In implant treatment, a screw-like structure made of biocompatible titanium is placed in the jawbone.

As the jawbone heals, the implant securely attaches to the jaw. After 2-4 months, when osseointegration occurs (the implant has fused with the jawbone), the superstructure (porcelain or zirconia) can be made.

Why Do We Use Implants?

Implants have several advantages over other restoration methods:

Natural Appearance and Function: Implants offer an appearance and function very similar to natural teeth.

Durability: Implants can be a long-term solution and, with proper care, can last a lifetime.

Does Not Damage Surrounding Teeth: Unlike other restoration methods, implants do not damage or affect adjacent teeth.

Hygiene: Cleaning the implant and surrounding teeth is easier than with bridge restorations.

How Long Does Implant Application Take?

The application of a single implant takes approximately 10-15 minutes. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. The numbness lasts 2-3 hours. It is beneficial to use painkillers for the first three days after implant application.

Who Can Have Implants?

Implants can be applied to individuals over the age of 18 who have completed their jaw and facial development.

Before treatment, the existing bone and gums are evaluated through clinical examination and X-rays.

In cases of bone deficiency, bone grafting is performed in the area to prepare it for implant placement.

Who is not suitable for implants?

Implants are not placed in young individuals whose bone growth and development are not complete.

Individuals with systemic diseases such as high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, or hemophilia, which may affect the operation and healing, will not have implants placed without consulting their doctor regarding these conditions.

Patients who smoke excessively may have implants placed after being motivated to quit or reduce smoking, as this can affect healing.

What is the lifespan of a dental implant?

With good care and regular dental check-ups, a dental implant will remain healthy in the mouth for a lifetime.

However, the success of the implant depends on the individual’s oral hygiene, health status, the location of the implant, the quality of the implant, and the provision of proper care.
